The Wopsononock Lookout Tower was constructed sometime during the summer of 1892. Standing forty feet high and containing four levels, the tower offered commanding views of the surrounding countryside. It was said that from the top platform, visitors could see into six different Pennsylvania counties. A wooden walkway connected the beginning of Lookout Avenue with the tower, making it easily accessible to guests at the mountaintop resort.

The Lookout quickly became one of Wopsononock’s most popular attractions. Even after the Wopsononock Hotel was destroyed by a forest fire in 1903, the tower continued to draw visitors for several more years. As railroad travel from Juniata to the summit of Wopsy declined sharply, however, maintenance of the wooden structure became minimal. The upper levels blew down during a storm around 1910 and then, for safety reasons, the lower levels were eventually removed.
