In a May 8, 1912 article in the Altoona Tribune, plans were detailed for extensive improvements to the Wopsononock Resort area following the purchase of the mountaintop property by Sigmund Morris. Among the proposed additions was a dance pavilion, and throughout the remainder of 1912 and the subsequent few years, local newspapers ran frequent advertisements promoting upcoming dances at “Wopsy.”
Although no photographs of the dance pavilion have yet surfaced, contemporary newspaper descriptions of its size and location suggest that the one-story building seen in the background of the vintage postcard above, on Wopsy’s Lookout Avenue, may include the pavilion.
