The Wopsononock post office was originally established as Stains, in Cambria County, on October 31, 1891. It moved into Blair County on April 1, 1892, and discontinued on Nov. 20, 1897, mail was directed to Altoona.

Charles V. Stains was appointed postmaster on October 31, 1891, and Ira J. Williams was appointed postmaster on August 24, 1892.

The post office was located on one of the highest points in the Allegheny Range. It served the large hotel and the cottages, as well as the employees of the mines in the neighborhood, until the office was discontinued.
