Gable’s was a major department store open in downtown Altoona, PA from 1885-1980. Gable’s had their own photographic department and took the photos for these postcards, produced sometime around 1915. However, they were mass-produced and are not Real Photo Postcards.
“ON THE ROAD NEAR WOPSONONOCK, ALTOONA, PA.” – Sent to Miss Bertha Shirm of Tyrone, PA. “Don’t work too hard,” she said. It features a Juniata postmark, because Juniata was a separate town from Altoona at the time.


“WHERE THE RAILROAD CROSSES THE DRIVEWAY, NEAR WOPSONONOCK, ALTOONA, PA.” shows the railroad crossing the driveway to the resort area, on the mountain top.

“NEAR WOPSONONOCK, ALTOONA, PA.” shows the mountain road and was sent to Miss Daisie Faux of Lewisburg, PA. It reports on receiving 8 inches of snow in Altoona.

“THE ROAD TO WOPSONONOCK, ALTOONA, PA.” shows the steep road up the mountain that remains windy, steep, and dangerous to this day.
